Bonless Salmon fillet 1 large Leek 2 carrots Half a Celeriac root Butter Cracked black pepper White wineHow to make Dishwasher Fish
Place the dishes and cutlery you will use to serve the dish in the dishwasher. If they are not in fact dirty, smear something with a strong colour, such as tomato sauce over them. When your dinner guests arrive, invite them into the kitchen and explain that you are a bit behind schedule. In fact you haven't cleaned the dishes yet. As they watch, lay out four sheets of aluminium foil. Using a mondolin (for speed) slice the leek, and julienne the carrots and celeriac. Place the vegetables in even piles on each of the squares of foil. Lay a fillet on each of the piles of veg. Place a good size pat of butter of each fillet. Add cracked pepper. Lift two sides of the foil and crimp a solid seal over the top of the fish, roll up and cimp one end, forming a packet sealed on three sides. Add a splash of a well flavoured wine (like a New Zealand Sav.Blanc.) into the open end of the packet and fold and crimp the remaining side. Place each completed packet into the dishwasher, close the door and start the wash cycle. Make sure the dishwasher is set to the hottest temperature available. Use the time it takes for the dishwasher to run to prepare and serve your starter. When the dishwasher cycle is complete, open the door, remove a plate and a knife and fork, and place a foil packet on the plate. Place one in front of each guest, and watch their faces! Obviously the technique depends upon obtaining a good seal with each foil packet. The first time I tried this, I used two sheets of foil, however the extra insulation left the fish slightly undercooked. One sheet is sufficient if you are careful. My dishwasher has a 30 degree and 60 degree cycle, and I need to select the 60 degree one. I add soap to the washer to increase the surprise effect, but you can leave it out if you are nervous. Also works with Tuna, and a selection of Asian veg., chilli and oils.
