How to make Basic tomato sauce (for pizzas, pasta etc)
If you dislike using the supermarket tomato puree for your pizza base sauce, try this. There's no comparison, thanks Jamie!
- In a large frying pan, cook the garlic in olive oil on low heat until done (2-3 mins)
- Add the tomatoes and basil and start to mash the tomatoes with the back of a wooden spoon.
- Season with salt & pepper. Once it comes to the boil, remove the pan from heat.
- Strain the tomatoes through a course sieve, mashing the tomatoes with the back of a spoon.
- Mash as much as you can, then return to the pan.
- Bring to the boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes until it becomes the perfect consistency for your pizza.
