How to make Homemade Pizza Dough
It's always infinitely better to make your own dough. This is a simple, basic dough which is perfect for thin-crust pizzas.
- Sieve the flour and salt into a big mixing bowl and make a 'well' in the middle.
- In a jug, mix the yeast, sugar and olive oil into the water and leave for a few mins.
- Poor mixture into the 'well' and bring in the flour (with a fork) gradually from the sides. Swirl into liquid. Keep mixing in until it starts to come together, then take out of bowl and onto a floured work surface.
- Knead until you have a smooth, springy dough.
- Put back into flour dusted bowl, cover with slightly damp tea towel and leave in a warm place for an hour (until doubled in size).
- Remove the dough to the flour dusted surface and knead with hands for a few mins (to push the air out of the dough).
- Divide the dough into 4 balls (or as many pizzas as you want) and roll out. Place on a greased baking tray, add tomato sauce/toppings* of your choice and bake in a hot oven (220'C) for about 8-10 mins.
If you don't want to use all the dough at once, wrap in cling film and either fridge or freeze it.
*See my 'tomato pizza sauce' recipe; in this pic we used tomato, mushroom (pre-cooked) & pepperoni for topping, adding fresh rocket for garnish. Yum!
