Ingredients

-1/4 cup pork, boiled then sliced in small pieces

-1/2 head of a cabbage sliced in wedges

-1 carrot, julienned

-1 red bell pepper, julienned

-1/2 cup cauliflower

-1/4 cup snow peas

-1 celery stalk sliced diagonally

-1 small onion sliced

-2 cloves garlic minced

-1/2 cup shrimp stock or water

-1 tsp cornstarch diluted in

-2 tbsp water

-3 tbsp soy sauce

-1 tsp sugar

-dash of sesame oil

-salt and pepper to taste

**the veggies i used here are the ones available in our ref. feel free to add your favorite veggies. i could have used some mushroom, broccoli, napa cabbage and young corn if i got them readily available. with regards to the meats, i would love to add some shrimp or boneless skinless chicken thighs. they do give a good amount of flavor. but nevertheless this dish is yummy simply done like this. ^_~

How to make Chop Suey


  1. Drizzle some regular cooking oil in a hot wok and start to saute garlic and onions.

  2. Put in the pork and let it saute for about a minute stirring around the oil, letting some of its fat to render. Then I add the cauliflower and stir fry a bit.

  3. When the cauliflower is half way done, I add in the cabbage and the seasonings (salt, pepper, soy sauce & sugar) I stir for a few seconds then I add in the stock to let the cabbage steam and cook.

  4. At this point I thicken my sauce with some cornstarch dissolved in a little bit of water. Then I add in the rest of the veggies, stirring them in a bit until their colors get bright and their done. A dash of sesame oil before turning off the heat give this dish an additional kick. Can be served on top of steamed rice or egg noodles. Enjoy!
