Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup cinnamon applesauce
- 1 1/2 cup sifted flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp water
How to make Chocolate Applesauce Cupcakes
These delicious cupcakes, a combination of traditional chocolate and a spice cake, using applesauce in place of oil, have replaced plain chocolate cupcakes in our household forever!
- Preheat oven to 350°. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg; beat well.
- Sift together flour, cocoa and spices. Add to creamed mixture.
- Dissolve baking soda in water and add to mixture.
- Pour into greased or paper-lined cupcake pans.
- Bake in 350° oven for 20 minutes or just until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Do not overbake.
- Ice with white, vanilla icing.
